Welcome Emily Elizabeth!

Well, I suppose it was bound to happen. Monday afternoon, as I wrote and scheduled the Avon Giveaway post, I had no idea I was about to go into labor. Emily was born at 7:46 am, weighing in at 6 pounds 4 ounces, 19 inches long. We're overjoyed with this new blessing, and are drinking in every moment we have with her. I'm officially on maternity leave for 8 weeks, and will plan on posting as I have the chance.

Hello Frosting!

I ran across these ingenious edible icing decals while perusing one of my favorite Etsy shops (Olliegraphic). hello frosting creates edible frosting decals that are an easy and economical way to pump up those plain cupcakes, cookies or whatever!

The designs are printed on thin sheets of edible icing using food-grade inks, so they're safe to eat and can be totally customized. They have lots of designs to choose from, wedding related and more.

And, by collaborating with Meg over at Olliegraphic, hello frosting now offers a selection of customized decals featuring an illustration of your child. How fun would a birthday party be with cupcakes that look like the birthday girl (or boy)?

Will she be a daddy's girl?

Well folks, we're officially down to less than a week before baby arrives. In case you don't remember, our due date is Sunday, June 20th, Father's Day to be exact. We've had a lot of predictions as to when our little lady will make her arrival, and although they're all very hopeful, I'm sure she'll arrive late.

I will be sure to update as often as I can, but consider this a warning for the light posting schedule that is sure to come. I have a few posts ready and waiting, but I can't imagine I'll have much time these first few weeks with a newborn.

Enjoy this special Father's Day weekend, and as always, happy planning!

DIY Alphabet Crayons for the Little Guests

Looking for a quick idea to keep the kids busy at your wedding reception? Look no further than this awesome tutorial for DIY alphabet crayons I saw over at Spearmint Baby.

You could spread these out at a childrens' activity center (spelling your names or other little phrases) or package them up in to-go bags for each of your littlest guests. Parents will be forever grateful!

Butterfly Art

Editor's Note: This post can now be found in the snip & scribble archives.

So it's not really wedding related, exactly, but I thought I'd share anyway. After we had our last baby shower I really wanted to hold on to all the cards, but had nothing to do with them, and nowhere to put them. So I came up with a solution... with a little inspiration from this butterfly punch tutorial . I ended up punching out little butterflies from each card and came up with this piece, to hang in the nursery:

I'm thinking you could totally use this (with another craft punch) to keep a memento of all your bridal shower cards. You could even find a fun punch to use for your place cards if you got really ambitious!

Hand-Cancelled Envelopes: Round 2

Awhile back I had posted about my frustrating experience with the post office and hand-cancelled envelopes. From that experience I had totally given up my post office hand-cancelling any of my important cards, invitations or announcements. They simply wouldn’t do it!

I’m happy to report, I have officially changed my mind about that issue. Last week I dropped by a smaller branch of our local post office, hoping to slide in and make sure everything weighed no more than 44 cents worth of postage. The two gentlemen working at the tiny desk helped me out tremendously by hand-cancelling all of my envelopes, and showing me the gorgeous new love stamps for 2010! I’m thinking the 8 month baby bump I’m sporting might have had a hand in the free hand-cancelling (which is usually 20 cents per envelope), but I’m okay with that!

If you’re finding yourself in the same situation, I highly recommend searching for a smaller post office in your area, and visit them during a slow time in the day to ask about the details of your mailing. It just might be the difference between hand-cancelling and running it through those dreadful machines!

Monogram Cake Topper

I saw this gorgeous real wedding over at One Lovely Day this morning and fell in love with this cake. I know it’s not anything really unique or monumental, but the simplicity of it with the beautiful cake topper really sets it apart. I remember trying to find a monogram topper for our wedding, over three years ago, but never could uncover one that didn’t look overly chintzy or fake. This one is definitely not that, and fits the ambience of the wedding so well!

Check out One Lovely Day for more incredible photos from this event!

Easy DIY Packaging Kits

We have a busy summer ahead of us… a handful of showers, weddings, and a baby on the way! With all of these exciting events on the horizon, I’ve been spending a lot of time looking for those perfect details on Etsy; some twine for this project, envelopes for that, and the list goes on.

While knee deep in the craftiness, I found this shop: belladrummer. Debee runs the adorable little shop, which is based out of San Diego, and chocked full of little embellishments and supplies to make all your crafting projects shine.

I love these packaging kits, which include everything you need to bundle up a little gift in style. They’d be so perfect for bridesmaid or flower girl gifts, and don’t involve a lot of extra effort!

Little Vases from Earth Friendly Weddings

I've only recently been able to catch back up on reading my long list of wedding blogs... whew! I stumbled upon this re-post over at Earth Friendly Weddings, my ultimate go-to site for everything green, chic, and wedding related! Check out the lovely and simple ideas Jennifer has up for creating a showcase for early spring blooms.

Although it's been warm here in Mid-Michgain, it's not quite warm enough to make the grass green or sprout hydrangeas overnight. Until then, enjoy the images!

Where has the week gone?

I cannot believe how fast the days are passing by! It's been too long since I've been able to browse my favorite blogs, inspiration sites and Etsy pages, let along blog about it! I apologize, but assure you, I'm still alive!

I started a new job last week, Monday to be exact, and it's definitely taken on a whole new role in my life. It's perfect for me, and very rewarding, but also drains me of any extra energy I may have left at the end of the day. I'm sure once I get into the swing of things I'll be back to my old self—posting weekly again!

Until then, check out some of my other favorite sites for inspiration!

DIY Dupioni Silk Yo-Yos

I just spotted this tutorial for Dupioni Silk Yo-Yos over at Style Me Pretty, you have to go check it out! Now! There are a ton of inspirational images that show you the endless opportunities to use these adorable embellishments.

I think I might create a few in some fun colors for our nursery, and then maybe make a few to dress up some plain cardigans I have for work. They look so easy, I might be able to actually get them done this weekend!

Guest Book Alternatives

The guest book—its one of those age old traditions that nobody really wants to break, but really, is it practical anymore? I had a guest book, and it currently sits at the top of our linen closet wondering what its purpose is in life. I concur.

While I still like the idea of capturing messages and names from your special day, I think we can do better than a traditional guest book. See some of these more modern ideas:

Typewriter guest book: Set out a vintage typewriter fed with some acid-free writing paper, or vintage note cards. You could even post a sign that encourages guests to write a wishful message along with their names. This would be a great item to frame after the wedding as well!

Song Dedication Cards: Have a stack of song dedication cards made up by your stationery (or DIY them), so guests of all ages can request a song. Leave enough room at the bottom for a sweet message to the bride and groom. Spread the cards all over the reception area—at the bar, at each guests’ place setting, or even at the guest book table (and don’t forget the little pencils). Your guests will love having their favorite tunes played in their honor, and you’ll love all the heartfelt messages you can keep later on.

Polaroid Photo Book: Set out a few Polaroid cameras along with a blank album with room to write next to each photo. Guests can take photos at will and fill in the album with memories and notes from the big day. Start them off right with a snapshot of the two of you, along with a note on what to do. You’ll get a variety of guest shots and hopefully some sweet notes to take home.
Note: since Polaroid cameras and film can sometimes be hard to find, also think about alternatives like the Fuji instax camera.
