Baker's Twine Does It All

Baker’s twine is one of my favorite accessories to have on hand—it’s handy for everything! I think I like it more than (dare I say it) ribbon! Here are a few handy examples of ways to use baker’s twine in your wedding—favors, invites or place cards. The options are endless, and lucky for you, the twine comes in a variety of sweet colors. I love how it adds just a pinch of color, and how practical it is at tying up an invitation suite, or favor box. Not to mention it goes with just about any style!

The twine isn’t hard to find out on the internet—try Etsy for small quantities and wholesalers for bulk. Even if you end up with leftover twine, it’s perfect to accent small gifts, holiday cards or even decorate with around the house!

Travel Themed Place Cards

I love the whole travel themed idea for weddings, especially when they're executed like this one, featured on Style Me Pretty! Holly and Sean had lots of little details from around the world, like their world map seating chart, their Singapore Slings cocktail hour, and these crafty little place cards!

Holly found a bunch of vintage envelopes from the 50's and 60's on ebay, so she encorporated small shipping labels tied around the vintage envelope that had the guests' name written on them. Here's what Holly had to say:

When you got to your place, the envelope was there, acting as your seating card, and you opened it to find your menu inside, which Sean made — we had four courses and we named each course as though you were on a plane: the amuse bouche was “Check-In,” then the salad was “Take-Off” then the entree was “Airborne” and the dessert was “Touchdown.

Wine Cork Place Cards

I like these, I really like these — unfortunately I have nowhere to use them. Our dinner parties are much too casual for seating cards, and I don’t plan on helping with any tuscan weddings in the future… but I liked them so much that I thought I’d do the math for you…

So say you stuck with the one wine cork per card, and you have 200 place/escort cards for the reception, that would work out to about 210 corks (200 plus a few extra for mistakes).

If you’re planning with a year to spare, that would mean finishing about 4 bottles of wine every week, if it’s just the two of you. You could always you enlist help from both sets of parents, which would equal a more realistic 6 bottles a month from all 3 parties.

You could always ebay the corks, but that’s not as special at collecting them yourselves. Another, more realistic option would be to use corks for the table numbers only, or for little signs all over the reception (menus, drink cards, etc.)

Here is a great
tutorial from Weddingbee's by Mrs. D’orsay, on how to make these little card holders.

For easels make great place card holders

If you’re having place or escort cards at your wedding, chances are you’re looking for a way to make them stand out. There are literally a million different ways to create these little cards, so don’t feel like you have to be tied down to the good old fashioned paper versions.

While I do love the simplicity of the paper versions, and the fact that you can match them to your stationery, I also love a little bit of creativity and style. If you don’t mind spending a few bucks on place cards, or are having a smaller wedding, something like these vintage fork easels would be perfect for holding a little place card.

River Rock place cards

Incorporating mother nature into your wedding decor can be both beautiful and rewarding, which is why I love this river rock place card idea. I found a simple River Rock Marker Kit Zanisa for $15. You could also find suitable stones from your local area instead of buying them... just use this post as an inspiration!

Aren't these twig pencils so unique! Maybe they could double as guest book pencils!

Ornament favor tree

It seems like the latest trend with place cards is to hang them in a pretty fashion, instead of the usual table setup. I really like this because it adds so much visual interest, and can really enhance the style and setting of a wedding. Combine this with a favor and you’ve killed two birds with one stone… which is where the ornament place card comes in!

Inspired by the endless selection of ornaments at Anthropologie, and the romanticwish tree featured in many weddings, the idea of a favor tree was born.

The ornaments vary in pricing, but most are well below $10.00. String a solid ribbon or cord through each of the ornaments and a small tag (these are from etsy seller oldtomfoolery) with each guests’ name to complete the look.

The tree branches can be an inexpensive and eco-friendly way to display all of your guest favors, and come in many shapes and sizes, depending on your area. The photo below illustrates a wish tree that caught my eye, and could easily be polished off with sparkly sentiments.

Escort vs. Place Cards

Blue Orchid Design blog had posted a really informative article on the difference between Escort and Place Cards. I think this is definitely something every bride-to-be should know, especially when ordering your custom paper products, like table numbers, and escort or place cards!

Potted place cards

I'm really enjoying this season’s trend of comfortable weddings. Ones with whimsical table settings and natural floral arrangements paired with practical yet pretty favors.

I feel like the last few weddings I’ve been to were at fancy places with a tight schedule filled with the traditional wedding events. And that’s okay, they were all beautiful and I’m sure pricey. But for once I would like to be able to take my shoes off and enjoy the grass between my toes, while sipping on a chilled beverage pulled straight out of an ice filled beverage tub.

Being more comfortable at a wedding is key to any guest, I can attest to that, which is why I’m a huge fan of comfy, natural, go with the flow weddings.

Anyway, on to the favorites!

Yummy Izze soda.

Wine-o weddings

I've always been a huge wine-o, so it's no wonder I'm a fan of this wine theme wedding items. You can do so much with a theme like this, and it truly has little to no limitations! Red wine, white wine, sparkling wine, you choose! Colors are endless, just as the shades of wine are.

Pictured above: the centerpiece and table decor is from the blog of I Do Click Photography where they featured Katie & Andy, who were married Searsport with a beautiful wine theme at their reception. The wine cork place card holder is from Plum Party.

DIY jewelry

I found this diy jewelry kit at papersource and thought... wouldn't these make creative place cards (for an intimate wedding, of course)!

Instead of having guests search for their name spelled out on a tiny card, string their personalized charm on to a fancy ribbon or flower and let them recognize their own picture plus their table mates!

Apple favors

Stuck in the middle of a Michigan snowstorm, I am dreaming of spring and summer! Hence my post about mini apple candles—a cute idea for a combo place card and favor. At Wax wizard candles I found three different colors; green, red, and yellow, all with a realistic brown wick. These would look great in a pink and green summer wedding, or use the red and yellow apples in an autumn wedding. This look has also been featured on the knot.

This look could also be achieved with an edible apple or crabapple for an outdoor wedding, and just imagine the apple scent!
